The Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP)
Access to discounted fertility medications by EMD Serono via Mandell's pharmacy

How to claim your discounted medications

Men Having Babies (MHB) as part of the Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP) is pleased that EMD Serono, the biopharmaceutical business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, in the U.S. and Canada, has agreed to provide prospective gay parents who are part of GPAP significant discounts on select fertility medications for use by their egg donor and surrogate when redeemed at an EMD Serono participating pharmacy.

MHB has partnered with Mandell’s Clinical Pharmacy to fulfill these discount orders on medications. As part of this program, those approved for Stage I can receive up to 25% off, and those currently in Stage II can receive up to 75% off EMD Serono donor medications when using Mandell’s Clinical Pharmacy.

To help ensure a smooth process for Intended Parents and the clinics they are working with, please follow these guidelines when requesting discounted medications:

Prescriptions:

Clinics should notate that the Intended Parents (IP’s) are part of MHB’s GPAP as well as the stage number the IP’s are currently enrolled into on the prescription* they submit to the pharmacy.

There may be instances when the clinic may chose to not work with the participating pharmacy in GPAP, in these situations prescriptions* can be given directly to the IP’s who can contact Mandell’s Pharmacy on their own to request the medications.

*Please note that EMD Serono products need to be ordered for the donor and/or surrogate otherwise the discount will not be applicable.

Verification:

Mandell's will be able to cross-reference and confirm the IP’s current stage in GPAP from information provided by MHB.

About Mandell's:

Mandells Logo_200
Mandell's Clinical pharmacy is an independently owned specialty pharmacy with a primary focus on meeting the needs of fertility patients. Owners Terry, a pharmacist, and Eddie, a retired fire captain, were first introduced to the world of fertility through personal experience, when they embarked on a five year roller coaster ride of infertility treatments. After numerous failed cycles, they eventually achieved a successful pregnancy via FET, which lead to the birth of their son.
Their experience changed the course of Mandell’s Pharmacy forever. “There was not much understanding of the emotional aspect that couples face and it was clear that unless you go through it yourself, you cannot fully comprehend the enormous emotional, psychological and social burden it entails,” Terry recalls.

As a result, Terry and Eddie decided to devote themselves to helping other couples undergoing this process and focused the pharmacy business on the needs of fertility patients. Terry and Eddie realized they had firsthand knowledge of the crucial role that the pharmacy plays in this process. With an understanding of the emotional and financial stress this brings to a relationship, they have a unique perspective on how to service their clients.

As the embodiment of Terry and Eddie’s vision, the staff at Mandell’s is fully trained to handle the full spectrum of patient needs. The experienced Patient Care Team at Mandell’s specializes in navigating the often complex and overwhelming medication ordering process. As a part of this amazing team, Mandell’s Donor/Third Party Coordinators possess an additional subspecialty in assisting patients going through donor, surrogacy and fertility preservation cycles. Regardless of the type of treatment or procedure, Mandell’s remains committed to honoring the patient-first approach that Terry and Eddie first set out to deliver.
