Italian associations call to legalize surrogacy based on the ‘international coalition for surrogacy ethics’ that emerged from MHB’s Brussels conference

On September 27th, 2016, following their participation in MHB’s Second Annual Conference on Parenting Options for European Gay Men, four Italian associations announced their support for the “international coalition for surrogacy ethics” that was formed at the Brussels conference. The four include Famiglie Arcobaleno (Italy’s LGBT parenting association), Associazione Luca Coscioni, Associazione Radicale Certi Diritti, and UAAR. They joined several other organizations from the USA, Europe and Israel that already endorsed MHB’s set of 12 parameters for the ethical use of surrogacy that were developed in collaboration with an advisory committee comprised of surrogate mothers.*

For too long we let lies and distortions about surrogacy go unchallenged! There are some small groups of anti-surrogacy zealots in Europe, one of them had about a dozen protesters in front of our conference in Brussels on September 25, 2016. They held signs of pregnant women with barcodes on their bellies, and others with crossed-out babies that were supposedly sold. Read More...

The conference served to raise awareness of limited domestic parenting options for European gay men, amid increasing political debates across Belgium, France, and the Netherlands regarding surrogacy and assisted reproduction legislation.

Our “Parenting Options for European Gay Men” conference held in Brussels May 2-3 attracted more than 200 prospective gay dads from 10 countries, and intense media attention. This came amid increasing political debates across Belgium, France, and the Netherlands regarding surrogacy and assisted reproduction legislation. While criticism came from both the right and left sides of the political spectrum, we had our say through numerous interviews with our board members, the surrogates who came with us form the USA, European parents and conference attendees. MHB is accepting applications for the Gay Parenting Assistance Program, appoints administrative coordinator

Men Having Babies is now accepting Stage I applications for the Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP), and the organization estimates that in 2014 the program will distribute over $500,000 in cash grants and pro-bono surrogacy related services offered by more than a dozen clinics, agencies, and law firms. In the coming weeks eligible applicants will receive certificates that will provide them access to discounts of up to 40% from participating providers. They will then be invited to submit Stage II applications, and those selected will receive grants and / or matched with providers who will provide them services for free. Read More...

Three European universities looking for gay surrogacy dads for a New Parents Study

As previously reported, new surrogacy dads are now wanted for an unprecedented study of new parents in the UK, France, and the Netherlands. The 3 year study will focus on male couples who became parents through surrogacy, compared with groups made of heterosexual surrogacy parents and lesbian headed families who were aided by donor insemination. At the October NY Men Having Babies workshop we hosted a TV crew filming for the Portuguese “Frontline” documentary show. The show aired on November 30th, and indeed it includes a nice clip from our meeting. They show also includes a rare interview of 11 year old gestational surrogacy kids (children of Ron and Greg from our group) about their origin and family makeup. Read More...
