Joseph Lori
JC and I have been together since 2002. We welcomed our first child on November 21 2017. Preston has been everything we imagined and more. We thought we knew what a parent was going to feel like but it has been 100 times better. It has been a privilege to be Preston’s parents. We have some wonderful news to share! We are currently going into contract for baby number 2. We are looking at a January 2020 transfer date. We couldn’t be more excited to give Preston a little brother!

David Vaughn
David and Brian were each other’s first dates on Match.com, and that was that. Why do people say online dating is hard? David is a former Broadway actor who is now a writer and director, and Brian is a Director of Marketing, and they live in East Rutherford, NJ, about 20 minuets outside of New York City. After a MHB conference, they approached Brian's sister about gestational surrogacy, and she agreed. They went through the IVF clinic at OHSU, independent, and got an anonymous egg donor. After creating 13 healthy embryos, they were lucky enough to get pregnant on the first try! They are now proud Dad's to a healthy 2-month-old boy who loves to kick and hates to sleep.

Holly Bearden
Holly is a 35 year old from Flower Mound, Texas and is married with a 10 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. She completed her first surrogacy journey in March 2019, for an amazing international family. She has also been a successful egg donor for a traditional couple in the DFW area, a gay couple in CA, and a single father in NY. She loves helping others achieve the family they have wished for through egg donation and surrogacy and hopes to continue helping to build families for others.

Michael Andersen
Mchael and Matthew have been together for 7 years and were married in 2016.  They worked with a gestational surrogate in California named Stephanie who gave birth to their 21-month-old son Cole.  Michael, Matthew and Cole spent 8 days in San Diego after the birth before flying home to Jersey City, NJ.  Michael is an active member of the City Dads Group and is an advocate for paid paternity leave, signing the Dove Men+Care Paternity Leave Pledge so that all dads can bond with their new born child. Michael and Matthew are in the early stages of a sibling journey to produce a baby brother for Cole.

Marcy Grazioso
Marcy is a three-time surrogate from Connecticut who has worked with same-sex male couples on two occasions. She is the mother of one daughter. Being a surrogate has provided her with so many meaningful experiences and wonderful memories

A mindful look at surrogacy - Psychological and Ethical aspects: 6:00 - 7:15 PM (Fitzgerald Ballroom)
In this session we will examine how we feel about surrogacy: the meanings and significance people tend to attribute to surrogacy in their lives, with a special focus on surrogates’ perspective. We will look at questions such as:
  • What are the dominant social perceptions of surrogacy in the U.S. and Canada?
  • How do surrogates understand their experiences?
  • What are the roots for concerns about exploitation and commodification in surrogacy?
  • What are the experiences of children born via surrogacy?
We will present recent research on surrogacy, and evidence from studies about the way surrogacy affects the the welfare of the child, the surrogate, and her family. We will also look at programs meant to encourage a more mindful surrogacy experience, such as MHB's Framework for Ethical Surrogacy.
