MHB is thrilled to announce that the growing group of providers who offer discounts to our members now numbers over 100 leading IVF clinics, surrogacy and egg donation agencies, law firms and providers of complementary services! One of Men Having Babies’ main goals is removing the financial barriers that prevent the majority of prospective gay parents from pursuing safe and ethical surrogacy parenting options. To assist on this front, MHB partners with surrogacy providers who share the same values, and who additionally agree to offer discounts and even free services to the MHB community. Surpassing 100 participating providers is an incredible achievement means that every supporting member at MHB can benefit from a wide selection of discounts that typically range from $500 - $1,500 each, or for the hundreds of couples accepted into MHB’s Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP), these savings can be upwards of $20,000!
A wide survey conducted by MHB found that gay men spend an average of more than $130k on their parenting journey, and that many prospective parents underestimate the required costs by twenty thousand dollars or more. It is not surprising that around 50% of intended parents who responded to the same survey expressed an interest in financial assistance options available to those who could not otherwise afford the entire process.
MHB’s participating providers help make surrogacy more affordable in several ways. Providers who pledge to the Membership Benefits Program (MBP) offer modest promotional discounts or goods to the entire MHB membership base, regardless of financial need. The vast majority of MHB’s providers also participate at MHB’s Gay Parenting Assistance Program (GPAP), to which they typically pledge more substantial discounts (Stage I) and even pro bono services (Stage II) to hundreds of couples and singles that are deemed eligible every year.
4 Dozen Babies
To date more than 1,700 couples and singles from around the world have qualified for Stage I GPAP discounts. An additional 95 couples or individuals have received Stage II GPAP assistance, which often includes cash grants in addition to the free services donated by the providers. As of April 2021, 59 babies have been born to Stage II parents, and more are on their way!
Lisa Schuster, the director of MHB’s assistance program says, “Attaining such wide support among the surrogacy professional community is very encouraging. As a two-time surrogate and someone who works with dozens of gay men who would have never become fathers without financial assistance, it is evident that gay men as a category face the most obstacles in their quest for parenting, not the least of which is financial.”
“Men Having Babies is the only non-profit organization dedicated to making gay fatherhood more accessible through guidance, advocacy and financial assistance”, Ron Pool Dayan, MHB’s Executive Director shares. “We will continue to reach out to service providers who share our vision to demonstrate their support of the gay community by pledging services and discounts through our programs.”
