Men Having Babies' Canada Surrogacy Parenting Seminar Series

Men Having Babies is now offering a four-part Surrogacy & Gay Parenting program in Toronto!

MHB invites prospective parents interested in learning about surrogacy in Canada to a Surrogacy Parenting Seminar Series in Toronto. It includes 4 seminars, 3-4 hours each, from March through October of 2020. Each seminar will include the following components:
  • An hour long peer-advice ”Planning Your Surrogacy Journey in Canada” workshop led by the MHB team.
  • A speciality expert panel focusing on different topic each time, as well as other unique sessions (financial assistance, advice for prospective single fathers, etc.)
  • Opportunities to hear directly from parents, surrogates and egg donors.
  • Opportunities to meet a select group of service providers.
  • An opportunity to socialize with similar minded couples and singles.
Prospective parents that already attended one of the "Planning Your Surrogacy Journey in Canada” workshop will have the option of skipping the first session in subsequent seminars while still benefiting from the unique expert panels and the opportunity to meet new providers.

Event schedule and specialty panels:
  • March 7, 2020: Understanding the Surrogacy Process - the role of surrogacy and egg donation agencies, matching, budgeting and insurance.
  • VIRTUAL May 2, 2020: Legal Aspects - understanding the legal framework for surrogacy in Canada + COVID-19 Updates
  • VIRTUAL July 11, 2020: Medical Aspects - the medical screening of future fathers, egg donors and surrogates, the creation of optimal embryos, and the IVF process.
  • October 3, 2020: Psychological and Ethical Considerations - A mindful look at surrogacy.

Sara R. Cohen, LLB

Sara R. Cohen, LL.B. is one of Canada’s leading fertility law lawyers, and is based in Toronto, with Fertility Law Canada, with clients throughout the world.  She has assisted thousands of intended parents build their families through egg donation and surrogacy in Canada.  She is a passionate and compassionate advocate for her clients. Sara was recently named by Canadian Lawyer Magazine as one of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada.  She is on the board of directors of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society, is the past president of Fertility Matters Canada, a fellow of the Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys (AAAA), an adjunct professor of reproductive law at Osgoode Hall Law School, and on the executive of the American Bar Association’s Family Law Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Ellen K. Embury

Ellen K. Embury is the founder of Western Canada’s largest law practice specializing in the area of surrogacy and fertility law.  She has been practicing as a surrogacy and fertility specialist in Canada for 20 years.  Together with her law partner Rachel West and their wonderful team, Ellen has helped thousands of couples and individuals of all backgrounds and sexual orientations to achieve their dream of become parents. Petra Hollosi

Nir Keren

Nir Keren, originally from Israel now lives in Toronto, Canada with his partner Bob. Nir has assisted several of his friends throughout their surrogacy journeys, in different countries which has opened his eyes to the many challenges intended parents are facing to create their families. Nir's background is in business improvement and marketing however after seeing first hand the obstacles international IP's endure, he felt that his mission and passion is to bring the awareness of the Canadian surrogacy option to IP's seeking alternative options. He has now dedicated his life to support IP's around the world to have a smooth and straight-forward journey in Canada. He established 'Babies Come True' several years ago which is now the largest intended parent support service worldwide. Nir and his husband went through surrogacy in Canada themselves and love to share their story.

Clifford Librach, MD

Dr. Clifford Librach is the founder and Director of the CReATe Fertility Centre The largest Fertility Clinic Canada. He is a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Toronto, and holds cross-appointments with the Department of Physiology and Institute of Medical Sciences. Dr. Librach played an integral role in the establishment of the reproductive biology clinical and research programs at Women’s College Hospital in 1991, and since then has shown unparalleled leadership and commitment, and made significant contributions to current fertility practice in Canada. Dr. Librach was the head of the CFAS in 2019. He is a huge supporter of the LGBTQ2 community and helped building thousands of gay families with the largest egg donation and surrogacy program in Canada. CReATe had their 10,000 Baby this year.

Julia Ross

Julia is a Military spouse, adoptive parent, infertility survivor and proud 3x Gestational Surrogate. As Director of client care for Canadian Surrogacy Options, Julia works to support intended parents and surrogates as they embark on their journey to parenthood.
